From Small Repairs to Major Builds: Uses of Cement

Cement is an essential material with a wide range of applications in both commercial and residential projects. Common uses include:

  • Concrete: Used in foundations, floors, and walls.
  • Piling and Groundwork: Strengthens and supports structures.
  • Mortar and Render: Bonds bricks and stones while protecting surfaces.
  • Screeds: Provides a smooth finish for floors.
  • Patch repairs: Ideal for fixing small concrete jobs and cracks.

It can also be used in more specific projects like fencing, bedding slabs, and architectural designs with decorative elements like pigments and aggregates.

Our brands are committed to sustainable cement production:

  • Tarmac Blue Circle: Reduces environmental impact through the use of alternative fuels, recycled materials, and energy-efficient processes.
  • Hanson: Offers Regen GGBS, a cement substitute that reduces CO2 emissions by up to 70%.
  • Limelite Heritage: Produces lime mortars with a significantly lower carbon footprint, as lime absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere during its lifecycle, promoting energy-efficient building practices.

Each brand implements responsible sourcing and strives to lower the environmental footprint of its cement products.

Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar: The Cement-Free Solution

Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar: The Cement-Free Solution

Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar offers a cement-free solution designed for use in both modern and heritage projects:

  • Breathable: Reduces trapped moisture, preventing damage to buildings.
  • Flexible: Accommodates natural movement, reducing the need for expansion joints.
  • Sustainable: Made with lime, which absorbs CO2 and is produced at lower temperatures than traditional cement.
  • Versatile: Available in different colors and aggregate sizes to suit varying aesthetic and structural needs.

This mortar is ideal for use in conservation projects, ensuring durability while maintaining the building's historical integrity.

Cement is ideal for various applications, our comprehensive range consists of bagged products from cements, ready to use concretes, quick drying products and specialist products, asphalts and base and decorative aggregates.
Mastercrete cement is multipurpose benefiting from additives to enhance workability. It has improved resistance to freeze/thaw attack when compared to traditional cement.
Cement can also be used in more specific projects like fencing, bedding slabs, and architectural designs with decorative elements like pigments and aggregates.
Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar is a lime based cement free mortar used for brick laying, block laying and stone masonry work for internal and external applications.
Our cements are tested throughout the production process, examining various parameters including chemical composition, mineralogical composition, strengths, initial setting time and colour etc.
Tarmac's cement products are manufactured to the European Standard for cement, BS EN 197-1 which means you can be sure that they will perform to specification.
Sulfate Resisting Cement is a low alkali cement with a high sulfate resistance and moderate heat of hydration. Reduces damage to concrete, mortar and grout exposed to sulfate attack, as well as minimising the risk of alkali silica reaction.
Hanson's White Portland Cement is naturally chosen for its high degree of light reflection. To obtain white or light coloured concrete specially selected white or light coloured sand and stone aggregates are required.
